What is Required ?

Typically, it takes a student between 40-60 flights to complete the training.
​Training flights last up to 30 minutes each.
If you’re motivated and start early it can be done in one season but often it takes two.
​

To engage in SOSA pilot training, you must be:
✓ Proficient in English.
✓ Medically fit.
✓ Minimum age to begin training is 14 years old.
✓ Minimum age for first solo flight is 15 years old.
✓ Minimum age to receive Glider Pilot License is 16 years old.

Learn from the Best
​SOSA, Canada’s largest glider flying club, boasts some of the country’s highest skilled instructors. Many have won championship competitions in Canada and around the world. SOSA also has the largest fleet of gliders, three tow planes and a winch system, making it easy to accommodate your schedule. Ground training is offered several times a year and all materials needed are supplied.

Learning to fly a glider is a demanding but you’ll receive some of the most valuable training you can get. Watch how these pilots put their gliding skills to work in a critical situation. Canada is world-renowned for pilot training and many of those pilots started out where you’re starting today.
